Preity in the media: “My fans want me to do films”

Preity’s ‘Har Pal’ will release next month!

Jahnu Barua loves to surround himself with things that remind him of his roots. Like the bamboo screen, the jappi (traditional bamboo hat), or posters of Assam that adorn the wall of his office at Famous Studio in Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi.

In the midst of these sits the soft-spoken director who’s made his name promoting the northeast in his films. However, his latest, Har Pal, set to release in December, will not make headlines for being set in the region. Rather, it will be remembered as the movie that Shiney Ahuja was working on when he was arrested on alleged charges of rape. Har Pal also stars Preity Zinta, who’s making a comeback to the big screen, as a resident of Shillong, with 15 to 20 per cent of it shot in and around Shillong.

Preity, Ranbir come together

Contrary to the speculation about Katrina Kaif and Rani Mukherji being part of Aditya Chopra’s next directorial venture, the big surprise is that it is Preity Zinta who has bagged the all important role of the leading lady. The hero is most likely to be Ranbir Kapoor. They are not paired with each other romantically. A young leading lady will be finalised soon for Ranbir. And this will be Preity’s comeback film after a long time.

A source said, “This is the big film that Preity has been talking about. She had earlier said in an interview that after giving three years to cricket and taking a sabbatical from Bollywood, she is all set to come back and she has signed a big banner film. The cat is now out of the bag and the film is indeed Aditya Chopra’s next film with Ranbir Kapoor. However, it is obvious that Preity won’t be paired opposite him so it remains to be seen which actor will star opposite her. As always, the script is a closely guarded one and no details have been revealed.”

Fans of the bubbly actress will sure be glad to have her back on screen.

Preity’s back with Yash Raj

Industry is ripe with rumours that Preity Zinta is making her comeback into the Yash Raj fold with the Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

Though Preity is tight-lipped about the development, sources say that she is returning to face the camera in a totally glam avatar.

The last time we saw Preity deck up for the screen was in Main Aur Mrs Khanna in which she did a special song-and-dance number for Salman Khan.

Preity, we hear, is of the opinion that she did Deepa Mehta’s Heaven on Earth and Rituparno Ghosh’s The Last Lear for a creative experience that she still cherishes. However, she now wants to flaunt her oomph factor and sex appeal.

Preity Zinta on her team Kings XI Punjab being ousted out of IPL by the BCCI, her high-profile business and more.

What was your first reaction when you heard about your team Kings XI Punjab being ousted from IPL?
I am still absorbing the news. After working so hard in the IPL and putting my everything in building this team, this is not what I expected. I am shocked.

But there were a lot of reports about you selling off your team.
There have been speculations galore since the past two years about me selling my team. But I really didn’t want to talk about my business so I didn’t say anything except that I was always going to continue being there.

What about your cricket-based series Behind The Seams?
The series is not going to come out immediately, it will take time. It is part of a long process and we are working on it.

Step it up

With the age to retire from active choreography nearing, it is Saroj Khan’s unwillingness to retire from the industry altogether that has had her consider film direction. “I know that it is a matter of few years before I have to give up choreography. But I am not yet ready to give up the film industry . I have been a technical person throughout my career and the role of director suits me best,” admits the 62-year-old.

The veteran choreographer is making her film making debut with a thriller-drama. The script is being worked on by both scriptwriter Robin Bhatt and writer and comedian Kader Khan, who has been living in Canada for the past few years. The film, untitled as of now, will go on the floors in October. Though the cast is not finalised yet, the producers are in talks with Preity Zinta for the role, which will be central to the film. The movie will, however, have two lead male actors — one will be a newcomer; while the production team is in talks with an A-list actor for the other, which will be a special appearance.
