U.S. stars, execs Bollywood-bound

America the partner country for the 10th FICCI FRAMES

NEW DELHI — Actor Danny Glover and NBC Universal Co-Chair Ben Silverman are two of the high-profile American delegates confirmed headed for India’s biggest annual media industry event, the FICCI FRAMES in Mumbai, from February 17-19, organizers said Monday.

The United States is the partner country for the 10th edition of FRAMES organzied by the New Delhi-based Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) in Washington, D.C., is the event’s institutional partner.

Silverman — whose company last year bought a 26% stake in leading Indian broadcaster New Delhi Television for $150 million — will lead the U.S. delegation, which also will include veteran U.S. broadcaster Charlie Rose and Microsoft’s chief research and strategy officer, Craig Mundie.

Also set to attend are Amit Khanna, chairman of Reliance Big Entertainment, the company that funded DreamWorks’ exit from Paramount for $550 million, “Elizabeth” director Shekhar Kapur and iconic Bollywood producer-director Yash Chopra, whose Yash Raj Films recently co-produced “Roadside Romeo,” The Walt Disney Co’s first film animated in India.

Bollywood director Karan Johar and actresses Bipasha Basu and Preity Zinta will also attend, as will senior executives from companies such as Time Warner, Discovery, Google and Intel.
